Congratulations to Laura McNeill, our Teacher Assistant of the Year!

Mrs. McNeill has been a part of this school for 13 years, starting out as a parent volunteer when her children were here, becoming a substitute teacher and then became a TA in the fall of 2005. While a volunteer, she  chaired the Great Leaps for Reading Program for 2 years. She has worked with every grade level except kindergarten and preschool over the last 7 years and she's loved every minute of it.  She especially enjoys working one on one with students that struggle with math and reading. Outside of school she also shares a passion of working with the youth group at FVBC on Sunday mornings. She considers it a blessing to help mold and shape children's lives each day. Congratulations Mrs. McNeill!

Congratulations to Mary Foster, our FVES Teacher of the Year!

Mrs. Foster has dedicated a very large portion of her life to educating our children with a determination and fervor. In our changing educational times, Mrs. Foster has been willing to do whatever is required to educate the children. She is someone that has the heart of a teacher. Mrs. Foster has been an inspiration to others through her positive attitude. She has tackled the new Common Core with as much vitality as a new teacher and has adapted to the many changes with flexibility and insightfulness.   Mrs. Foster  has brightened the minds of those students she has taught through the years. Former students remember “Lily's Purple Purse” or “The Cat and the Hat” because of outfits and enthusiasm for authors.   Mrs. Foster has been teaching school for 33 years.  She has taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades during her career.  In addition, she has also taught French and Spanish and incorporates these languages into her 1st grade classroom daily.  Teaching reading is a special passion of Mrs. Foster's and several years ago she helped create and plan the Moonlight Reading event that we still celebrate each November. Congratulations Mrs. Foster!

Congratulations Mr. Mike Triplette our FVES 2013 Volunteer of The Year!

Mr. Mike is an Army veteran who volunteers unselfishly at our elementary school nearly everyday. We thank him for his service to our children and to our Country! He is humble, loyal, always ready to help, and the kids love his gentle grandfathers heart!  He is a familiar face at FVES in the media center or in the classroom helping 1st graders with Rainbow Words.  He always has a warm smile and a contagious chuckle!  He's a proud grandfather who generously shares his time with the students at FVES!  He's a shining example to our future generations! Thanks to all who volunteer their time and talents, you truly make a difference in this world!

Student Assignment 2013-2014

Effective immediately, every student will be assigned to a school based on his or her home address. To offer continued stability for families, the plan includes minimal reassignments, as well as the opportunity for students to “grandfather,” or stay with their current schools if they are happy there.

In addition to district-wide increases in proficiency, Economically Disadvantaged students in Wake County demonstrated the highest levels of proficiency in math and reading that they have achieved under the state's current testing model.
